Fitness for Humans

Hallo,

A few months ago I started working in the gym "industry". I have always been heavily involved in some sort of fitness but this experience has really opened my eyes with regards to the average Joe's mentality towards exercise, the stereotypical goals people set, the not so typical goals...the failures, the successes, and the way by which people measure their accomplishments.

What I'm hoping to do with this blog is to share a thing or two about fitness and nutrition that I've found has helped my clients as well as few anecdotes on gym life that keeps my life interesting.

Even though some would dispute it, I know fitness is for everyone. I didn't say running or skiing or body building is for everyone...but fitness is. You don't have to be a "gym person" to go to the gym, nor do you have to be going to the gym to be fit. Truth is, not everyone enjoys the gym environment and I don't blame them. Depending on the gym, it can be a somewhat testosterone-driven place (I've heard the free weights areas in gyms referred to as "man zones" before).

Everyone who chooses the gym route does so for various reasons; whether it's because they only want to be there during the cold months, won't exercise unless there's a place they're paying for, or they enjoy the group classes, there is always something they think appeals to them when they sign up. Those who chose not to go to the gym have found what they enjoy in exercise outside of any facilities and fit it in regularly (and sometimes not as regularly as they'd like)...or they fall into the category of people who claim "fitness just isn't for me". Funny. I've met quite a few of these people and everytime it's the same thing: they didn't find something they enjoyed and gave up.

Part of my job is helping people find something they will actually enjoy so they don't see it as a chore and can stick to their goals whilst having fun...that's the best part of the job!

That's all for now!
